One School One Book

Every Hillside employee and Hillside student family received a copy of the book, Flora & Ulysses. Over the course of a few weeks, the entire school read assigned chapters each night. If a student or staff member didn’t get a chance to read the night’s assignment, then they were able to head to the library each morning to hear the assigned chapters read aloud. Hillside’s Literacy Team did an amazing job creating fun Kahoot quizzes and activities for the kids to complete after reading chapters. This One School One Book program was a huge hit! After the book was completed, Hillside hosted an Illuminated Adventures of Literacy Night celebration. There were stations set up in different classroom revolving around themes from the book. These stations included: comic book creations, superhero photo booth, Kate DiCamillo author study, learn how to give CPR, exotic pet care, poetry writing, reverse engineering, slime making, and an obstacle course. This was such a hit that Hillside is now hosting Fiction Fridays to continue reading aloud picture books in the library.
